Don’t deprive yourself — eat in moderation and listen to your body. That is what I say to all of you who are worried that you will gain lots of weight during the holiday season, which is creeping up on us again. Pretty soon we are going to be stuffing ourselves with lots of yummy food that we consciously know is not good for our bodies.
But since it’s inevitable, I say don’t deprive yourself. If something looks too good to pass up, then have it — just make sure to eat in moderation. Also, eat slower because you will feel full faster. I don’t claim to be an expert in the field, and I am not a certified health specialist, but I know my body and I know from talking to others in the field that this is a good way to live.
Always listen to your body. It will tell you when you are stuffed. It will tell you when you drink too much. It will tell you many things. Just try to listen. For instance, there have been times when I have been at a restaurant with friends and I’ll have some food left over on my plate. Everyone always says, “Aren’t you hungry?” or “What, you don’t like it?” But the truth is, I am just listening to my body and if I am stuffed, I physically cannot take one more bite. Some may say it’s a waste of money, but it’s not because you can always take it home and eat it another time.
Women tend to want to please everyone. We will eat all the food when we are out with our friends or we will try all of the food that our co-workers bring to the office. But you have the right to say no or to take a small bite. As women, our bodies go through so much. It’s almost like we are human shape shifters! We have a monthly menstrual cycle, we have pregnancies, we go through menopause and many other body changes. We all have different body types, but gaining weight, unfortunately, is one of those things that we know is bound to happen. This holiday season, my recommendation is don’t listen to your mom when she says you should eat all of the food on your plate because people in (enter your mom’s favorite Third-World country here) don’t have food. Follow the advice above and you should be good to go!
In today’s economy, most of us who have full-time careers have taken on second jobs for some supplemental income, and they can be very diverse. For instance, a few years ago I was a top producer in the mortgage industry and made jewelry so I was known as the “Mortgage Jewelry Girl.”
Since that time many people have followed in that path and, boy, am I proud of my good friend Jacqueline Kawich. She is a successful rep for Aflac supplemental insurance and she has always had a passion for cooking and cleaning. She caters Passover every year for us, she cleans our home, and she recently just put together a yard sale for us that went as smooth as can be.
Getting odd jobs here and there, she realized she had a great talent and that she offers various services that many locals need. That led to the clever name of her new business: “Jacqueline of All Trades Home Care.” Love that name! “My company cares for the three most important things for a home to run smoothly: home organization, personal chef, and housecleaning,” she says.
She adds proudly, “With home organization, the trash will be tossed and the clutter will be sold at a yard sale. Anything left is donated to a charity. House cleaning is assessed on a per-house basis. And for cooking, I have been cooking since I was five and had my catering business for more than 10 years. I will cook five dinners, four servings each, with two side dishes. Not only will it be healthy, but it could be according to any religious or dietary needs you may have.”
