In this world there are doers and there are sleepers; which one are you? I am always a big fan of doers. I came across this quote by Howard Thurman recently that reads: “Don’t ask what the world needs. Ask what makes you come alive, and go do it. Because what the world needs is people who have come alive.”
There are a lot of inspirational people (check last issue’s Top 40 Under 40) who are making things come alive in Atlantic City as well as generating new happenings that will help our tourism industry. Here are a few of them:
1) Atlantic City was hoppin’ this past weekend, especially on Friday for the grand opening of the breathtaking venue One Atlantic located on the 4th floor of The Pier Shops at Caesars. With over 1,000 RSVPs, this was surely the place to be and be seen. Upon check in, instead of receiving a ticket or badge to get in, we all got a small, stone-shaped clear-blue bead. Really cute idea, especially for me since I love that stuff.
The owners spared no expense for this grand opening, that’s for sure. From the dancing violinists to the elaborate food, it was truly a fun night. And I can say with confidence that you will enjoy your party there as well. With views of the ocean, Atlantic City Boardwalk, and the glitzy casinos, it is one of a kind. The venue spans 100 yards over the Atlantic Ocean and they have set it up so no matter the size of your party, whether 20 or 1,000, everyone will have an unforgettable time. Not to mention One Atlantic offers gourmet catering with vast menu selections including vegetarian, organic and kosher dishes. Check out oneatlanticevents.com.
2) I have to give a shout out to my colleagues Ray McCline and Ron Gabriele, partners in Sinova Consulting LLC , along with Dr. Joemy Tam, because they just signed a deal with Galaxy Tours. Galaxy Tours is a tourism company based out of China with an operation out of New York City, and Sinova is to make Atlantic City a stop on their multi-city United States itinerary. Other stops include New York City, Toronto, and Washington D.C. Sinova believes that by 2011 they’ll have the opportunity to bring in as many as 150,000 visitors to Atlantic City. This is a great step in the right direction for our tourism industry and I am so proud of them!
3) Also a breath of fresh air for Atlantic City is the Atlantic City Plugged In. It’s a new radio show hosted by Marc Berman on News Talk 1400 WOND every Saturday at 4pm. Tune in live every week at wond1400am.com and hear Berman keep things positive and lively as he interviews various celebs and talks about great things going on in Atlantic City.
4) There are a couple of great tourism groups in A.C. and one is the Greater Atlantic City Region Tourism Council. They meet on a monthly basis with the next meeting on Tuesday March 16 at Dolce Seaview Resort and Spa in Galloway. Check them out online to see what they’re doing at actourism.org. We have another great local group in the Atlantic City Tourism group, put together by Charlie Pinkett. His last meeting was at Planet Rose, so stay tuned for his next meeting which will most likely be in April at Il Mulino in the Taj. You can check out some of his videos and pictures at atlanticcitytourism.net
I’m feeling the vibe that we are preparing ourselves for a fantastic summer. This past weekend the weather was great and people were lively again. Playgrounds were packed and so were the local events.
And I must say that people are ready to get out, hang out and let it all out.
And remember to go for your dreams because the world need people who come alive!
