Trendy. Organic. Fair trade. Local. Do you look for these traits when shopping for clothes and accessories? Well, look no further because do I have southern New Jersey’s best-kept secret to share with you. Never Too Spoiled is a store, formerly located at Atlantic City’s Historic Gardner’s Basin, that has been operating out of the Hamilton Mall in Mays Landing for several months. I absolutely love this place! Owner Rene Galvin makes sure to stock fabulous items made with re-used, re-purposed materials. Her store is part of the 10,000 Villages fair-trade retailers. She spoke with Atlantic City Weekly recently.
What trendy accessories do you offer?
We try to be more of a trendy classic. Kitson of Hollywood was one of our favorite stores when we were in L.A. We found they had some great items, and offered many items that were not affordable. We began our search for clothing, handbags, jewelry and gifts that had the great look, without sticker shock. Our biggest concentration is on organic and fair trade. Organic clothing is made with cotton minus the pesticides. Once you wear an outfit made from organic cotton it’s hard to go back. Fair-trade gifts and accessories are made by women who have [previously] been exploited. By choosing fair trade, you not only get beautiful crafts, but you are also empowering women with sustainable work and fair wages.
What is a 10,000 Villages Retailer?
We are thrilled to be a 10,000 Villages Retailer, which is a large chain of fair-trade stores. We just ordered Nicole Richie’s New House of Harlow sunglasses. The hottest handbags in Hollywood are Melie Bianco, and we are an authorized reseller. Our books are great sellers, especially inspirational ones. But by far, our best sellers are our jewelry and our organic clothing. For a night out, or a cute sundress, or a necklace, we have been lucky to come to people’s mind, and they stop in.
Do you give back to the community or help any local organizations?
Absolutely! We have been involved with local charities for over 10 years, even before starting our new venture. We have been pleased to be involved with Alcove and did a wonderful fashion show last year coordinated by Shelby Losco. We love being involved in the community and giving back as often as we can.
When are you going to have your grand opening?
Our grand opening will be held in May. We are planning on having a pink ribbon-cutting, giveaways and samples. Live models and local artisans with trunk shows are just part of the plans. We loved being in Atlantic City and many of our customers have been shopping with us already. Thanks to them we were able to realize we needed to be open year round, which Hamilton Mall allowed us to do.
At Never Too Spoiled they offer “affordable spoiling for everyone.” From local designers such as Lolly, with her best-selling scarves, to watches by LeMer, there is a gift for everyone here. Lauren, Rene’s daughter, was the inspiration for this fab store, so when stopping in make sure to thank Rene and Lauren for keeping us trendy, yet healthy, and responsible to our earth.
Speaking of accessories, keep your calendars open for Wednesday, April 28, for the first “Shoe Society Party” being held at Planet Rose inside the Quarter at the Tropicana from 6-9pm. If you love shoes and want to show them off then you’ll love this event. Cristina Candullo, the founder, is excited for this Atlantic City event where you can show off your shoes on a pink runway. There will also be prizes and giveaways. A portion of the proceeds benefit The Alcove. RSVP to firstname.lastname@example.org.
