Valentine’s Day is right around the corner and I know you’re probably trying to think of something creative to give your honey. Locally there are many holiday specials, in fact too many for me to fit in this column, but below are a few fun ways to keep the sparks going.
If you are already married, why not renew your vows? Sign up for the Atlantic City Convention & Visitors Authority’s annual free, non-denominational group wedding, civil union and vow-renewal ceremony at Boardwalk Hall — on Valentine’s Day (Feb. 14) at 2pm; registration closes on Feb. 10. The Absecon Lighthouse also has an evening of romance and renewal on Valentine’s Day. To find out more, visit abseconlighthouse.org.
Of course, before you go through another wedding you may want to give yourselves a little pampering, so you have a few choices. Bellezza Salons, inside Bally’s and Caesars Atlantic City, are hosting Champagne & Roses — Couples Pedicure. Enjoy a delicious and fragrant treatment inspired by the fruit of the vine. This includes gently removing dead skin and then enveloping your feet in a rich butter cream that contains shea butter, grape seed oil and vitamins A, C, D and E for softer, silkier, smoother skin. You will receive a one-hour pedicure along with strawberry beverages, and sample product bags for his and her. Treat yourself and someone special to this wonderful Valentine’s gift. Check their Web site salonsbellezza.com.
Another great salon gift for the man or woman in your life is from ART IS... Salon in Brigantine, which is having a special from now until Valentine’s Day. If you purchase a $30 gift certificate you will receive a $10 Art Is... gift card for free. Visit artissalon.com.
OK, so you got all pampered, renewed your vows, but you have to stay in Atlantic City in order to get away from the monotony of being home. Of course, every hotel has their specials. Bally’s has a package called “Romance in the West,” which, for $145, includes overnight accommodations, a dinner for two, access to the spa and relaxation facilities, breakfast in bed and a late checkout. Visit ballysac.com.
Resorts Casino Hotel wins for the most unique package of them all. Starting with the “Proposal Package,” which entitles you to many hotel amenities including a diamond ring worth $7,500, a serenade by Blanche “The Singing Bartender” (see p.10) and transportation in a 1920s-style limo to name a few — all for a mere $10,000. Or maybe the “Going to the Boogie Chapel Wedding Package” tickles your fancy. This groovy ceremony at Boogie Nights will surely be a night to remember for your guests. With an open bar, celebrity impersonators, a hotel room, salon credits, champagne, cake, and so much more, you can’t go wrong for $25,000. As they say, “Get married or renew your vows under a disco ball — only at Resorts!”
Of course, there are plenty of other too-cool sounding packages at Resorts that are in the more modest price ranges, like the “Romance with a Groove” ($269 Fri. or Sat.), the “Thank You Daddy” ($499 Sun.-Thurs.; $549 Fri.-Sat.), and the funniest of them all, “The Mistress” ($269 Sun.-Thurs.; $319 Fri.-Sat.). Visit resortsac.com.
To share a few laughs with each other, head out to see Kozak the Magician, who will be performing at 6pm as he does every night at the Comedy Stop Café & Cabaret inside The Quarter at the Tropicana. Plus, there is even a dinner show package available. Go to comedystop.com.
But for those of you who prefer staying home and relaxing, the Atlantic Cape Community College’s Academy of the Culinary Arts shares with you romantic and affordable recipes that you can make at home for your sweetheart. Dishes include pan-seared scallops with spicy corn cakes, braised short ribs with noodles, and a chocolate ganache dessert. For a detailed recipe, check out atlantic.edu/aca.
I hope that you all have a loving, peaceful, and romantic Valentine’s Day!
