http://www.atlanticcityweekly.com/news-and-views/whitneys-radar/Mr-Nightlife-Howard-Weiss-128820668.html Labor Day weekend is just about here and the summer may be over for some, but for us Atlantic City-area folk the party doesn’t end.
I had the pleasure of speaking with Howard Weiss, the regional director of nightlife operations and strategy development at Caesars Entertainment. Caesars Entertainment embodies some of the hippest places to party and dance including the celebrity hot spot, “The Pool After Dark” at Harrah’s Resort and the Foundation Room, which is a chic ultra lounge located inside the Showboat Casino Hotel.
According to Weiss, the Pool is different than any of the other venue in town because it has two identities. It’s a pool by day, and a nightclub by night.
I’ve had the pleasure of experiencing both aspects.
Daytime at the Pool — especially in the winter months — is a real treat because it’s housed under a 90-foot dome so there’s never a bad time to lay out and the temperature is always perfect.
Nighttime during club hours is especially cool because the place is packed, the music is bangin’ and there is usually a celebrity occupying one of the cabanas. Current hours for the nightclub are Wednesday, Friday and Saturday 10pm-4am.
One of Weiss’ responsibilities is to make people aware of some of the other 20 or so venues — such as Dusk at Caesars, for example — that fit into his lounge/bar portfolio in Atlantic City. For example, Bally’s (which, along with the Showboat, Harrah’s Resort and Caesars are owned by Caesars Entertainment) has many great places to hang out and have fun.
One in particular is Mainstage, which is located inside of Bally’s Wild Wild West. There you can ride a mechanical bull, play beer pong and hear live music. Plus it’s surrounded by a gaming pit. In Atlantic City there aren’t too many places where you can ride a bull, let alone inside a casino.
The Foundation Room at Showboat, which is one of my favorite places, really lives up to its reputation. This ultra lounge houses some of the coolest interior decor in town and features DJ sets every Thursday and Saturday nights. Plus the biggest advantage of coming here is their outside deck that overlooks the beautiful Boardwalk and ocean.
Now you can even reserve a hookah at the Foundation Room! It is the only destination here in Atlantic City that offers hookah service (for tobacco).
Although it is open to the public, you can still become an exclusive member of the Foundation Room club, which includes special perks such as discounts on spa treatments, show tickets, golf outings, invitations to private events and more.
The possibilities for fun in Atlantic City are endless, but thanks to Weiss, we will start recognizing and finding many more exciting places to go. See you at the clubs!
Labor Day weekend is filled with fun things to do but one in particular is the Jennifer Haley Trunk Show that will be hosted by Knit Wit in Margate from Friday, Sept. 2-Monday, Sept. 5 with a chance to meet the designer on Saturday Sept., 3.
As a young girl Haley always had an obsession with the fashion world, loving accessories — especially, bags, shoes, jewelry and fur. She grew up in the Philadelphia area but spent her summers for the past 19 years in Longport at her family’s summer home.
Eventually Haley moved to South Florida with her family and opened her own high-end boutique, which she sold a few years later to pursue her passion of designing bags and work as a clothing buyer for a well-known boutique in Boca Raton where she meets and styles many celebrities.
“I am pleased to work very close to many celebrities as a stylist and they happen to like my designs so far. I am very lucky,” says Haley. Her designs can be seen on a few celebrities including, Rachel Zoe, Teresa Giudice and Jill Zarin.
Haley believes you are what you wear and people dress in different roles each day so that is where she came up with her bag names: Stroll, Schmooze, Schlep, Structure and The Ruthie, which is named after her best friend and grandmother Ruthie Seidman who recently lost her battle with ovarian cancer.
“I enjoy working with Susan G. Komen, Young Friends of Eli Weisel and just started the planning of my Web site launch with 100-percent proceeds going to ovarian cancer research,” says Haley. “It is the one charity I feel closest too.”
With her passion, drive, and giving nature, Haley will be continuously rising up in the fashion world. Make sure to come see her while she is in our area or visit her site at shopjenniferhaley.com.
