I’m in love with the most awesome trend that will save you lots of time but most importantly, money. Remember back in the “olden” days when we would go to the convenience store and pick out a really cool nail polish color and then go home, sit at the table, and paint away. Then of course it was inevitable the strokes were sloppy, there was extra paint on your skin and it was almost unavoidable to get a ding in your nails even when you thought they were dry.
As time progressed, you gave yourself praise that you could do it yourself, but it just made more sense to go to a salon and get it done professionally. It was a time to sit back and relax, but waiting for the paint to dry can be stressful and even then, once we got to the car it was inevitable that we got a ding in our polish.
There are those of us who used acrylic or gel nails for years and didn’t have to worry about those same nuances, but even that had its con’s because after awhile they needed to be removed in order to let our nails breathe.
One of the coolest trends to come along in the past couple of years is the nail shellac. Shellac is permanent nail polish that lasts for up to two weeks and is a healthier option compared to fake nails. The great thing about Shellac is there is essentially no drying time. During the process your nails are put under a special UV light so by the time you get the last coat, you can walk out confidently.
That was my favorite option for a while, but now I fell in love again with my newest find.
I’ve walked pass this so many times and thought, how could it work. I finally I gave in and purchased the Sally Hansen Salon Effects Real Nail Polish Strips. For around $8 I picked a really cool galaxy pattern and went to town. It was so easy! It’s literally a strip of nail polish that you stick onto your dry nail, bend the excess over your nail and tear off. That’s it! No nail polish required and it lasts for up to 10 days.
To remove it, you use nail polish remover. It’s so straightforward and saves you time and money. The package comes with 16 strips in different sizes, a file with a buffer and a manicure stick. They have over 40 different patterns and styles to choose from.
If you thought that was cool, I came across another brand with the same concept. It’s Kiss Nail Dress and I love them because they have shinier, funkier styles, some even with rhinestones. They seem to last the longest and maxed out at 10 days without chipping. I love the cat-suit style. Ha-ha…a little gaudy but with short nails it’s so much fun.
I had the pleasure recently of going to New York City for New Year’s Eve and of course of had to pop into Sephora. I found a few goodies and one of them, yes you guessed it was their version of the decals, called Nail Bling. Can’t wait to try it out. It’s the Black Rainbow version and I’m super excited!
For any of the styles check out your local CVS or go tohttp://www.sallyhansen.com/, http://www.kissnaildress.com/ ,http://www.sephora.com/ respectively
An average manicure is $10-$15 and I don’t know about you, but my nail polish chips after two or three days. Acrylic nails are about $35 to put on and then another $20 or so to keep up every few weeks.
Shellac, although so smart, needs to be taken off by a professional and that puts a dent on our time and money. With the option of the nail strips, for $8-$12 you can be as fun and flirty as you like, there is no time required for drying and you can do it at your leisure. Plus it’s simple, easy and affordable.
Happy nail decorating my fashionistas!
