DJ Pauly D is known by some, for his party-like ways & kid-like antics on MTV's "Jersey Shore," but in his normal, non-reality life, he's an astute businessman, and down to earth guy.
On Saturday night, Pauly D dined with seven guests before his set at Harrah's the Pool After Dark where he arrived with an entourage of 40, including his "Pauly D Project" costar Big Jerry. We were able to speak to Pauly before he started spinning.
NJ.com: What do you love most about being a resident DJ at The Pool?
Pauly D: This is almost like home to me, all of my friends and family come out to see me. And this is almost like a mini Vegas but on the East Coast. Everybody comes out and I like to party with them.
How have you helped in regards to Hurricane Sandy and tell us about teaming up with the ASPCA?
Pauly D: Basically, we did an event here, a fundraiser. And we also did the telethon with MTV. Now, I'm working with the ASPCA because, unfortunately, there were a lot of pets with families who lost them. So I try to give back the best I can.
You were one of the only cast members who had a job prior to joining the "Jersey Shore" house. What was it like?
Pauly D: It was cool going into that house already having a job because it kind of blew up my career a little bit and I got to show the world what I do for a living. So I'm happy about that.
Do you have plans to ever change your hairstyle?
Pauly D: [Laughing] No way! You know god blessed me with this hairline and I don't want to let him down and cut it, so I'm going to keep it.
Your new single "Back to Love" featuring Jay Sean is out now. What was the inspiration behind it?
Pauly D: It was so cool to work with Jay Sean, he's a great guy. Basically, I wanted to put out something that people didn't expect. It's not like a fist pumping track taking shots. It's something that you can relate to, it's like a love song, and Jay Sean killed the lyrics, so it was a great combo.
What's it like working with 50 Cent's label?
Pauly D: I mean, 50 Cent is the man! When I linked up with him, it was like perfect chemistry, we hit it off. He has the same vision as me, so expect a lot of features to come. We just dropped that first single "Back to Love" and finished the video for it, and now I'm dropping some remixes...so there is more to come.
What can we look forward to in the future of Pauly D?
Pauly D: Right now, I'm working heavy on my residencies. I got one in Las Vegas and the other in Atlantic City. I got Remix Cocktails out, so I'm really excited about that, and we are setting the stage already to tour the world with that. Plus, right now I have my album.
"The Pauly D project" was pretty popular, are you going to do it again?
Pauly D: "The Pauly D project" was dope, and I am glad to be a part of that. Hopefully, there will be another one. I haven't had word yet, but they will probably let us know last minute.
You are so young and made lots of money, what are some investments that you swear by?
Pauly D: [Looking down and picking up his gold link necklace] Gold! Invest in a lot of gold, it keeps going up.
Many ladies have secret crushes on you, are you looking to settle down any time soon?
Pauly D: I would like to. I'm looking, and single right now, but just looking for the right one.
After speaking to us, Pauly D kept the crowd pumped up with his DJ set until around 2:30am. His group drank Remix Cocktails and Patron Shots until about 3am. According to our insider information, Pauly especially enjoyed the "Yea Yum Berry Remix".
