In the early 2000's, R&B artist Ciara, attained celebrity status with eight Billboard Hot 100 top-ten singles and sold 7 million albums world wide. Fast forward to 2013, and she is currently on tour to promote her new album, One Woman Army, which goes on sale June 4.
Ciara recently sat down with NJ.com after a hosting gig at Harrah's Pool After Dark in Atlantic City.
NJ.com: What do you love most about coming to Atlantic City?
Ciara: I was just saying to my team, it's like a whole other world out here; it kind of reminds me of Vegas. This is my first time ever going out in the city and it's really nice.
Many fans are in awe of your body. What is your diet like?
Ciara: I try to make sure I have balance. I love eating food, so I make sure I get what I like to eat, and at the same time I make sure not to over indulge. Oh and drink lots of water.
You took the music scene by storm in the early 2000's. How did it feel to catch that big break?
Ciara: It's just a blessing to be living my dream. When I was able to see that my dream really came true, it meant so much to me and I felt really inspired.
Why haven't we heard anything from you until now?
Ciara: I've been working hard and putting things together and didn't want to rush anything. You know, it's all about the right time, and I've just been enjoying life, too, so it's a combination of all that.
One Woman Army is your new album, what is it about? Ciara: In this album, you are gonna get me. More than anything, on some level, it's just about the journey of who I am as a person. I am so much more confident then I've ever been before, and I'm much more comfortable in my skin than I've ever been before. But really this album, it's going to have some fun, some dance, and it's just gonna be me.
Which do you enjoy the most: performing, acting or modeling?
Ciara: I love doing everything, it's all forms of entertainment. Music is my first love, however, I feel very blessed that I can do other things because of the music.
"Body Party" is your newest single. Which boy is always on your mind?
Ciara: It was a song that I was inspired by my love in my life. I call him Nayvadius and you can figure the rest out. [Editor's Note: Ciara revealed in a radio interview that she is currently dating rapper Future.] We actually wrote the song together. It's a song that is written for everybody. It's not just about the sensual side of it, you can also have fun too.
Was it fun working with Nicki Minaj on "I'm Legit"?
Ciara: Nicki is so cool. She and I have been talking in the last few weeks about creative things. She's a sweet girl. She's a beast. Like I put on Twitter 'Murder was the verse that she gave me.' Like she really murdered her verse, so she really was amazing.
Who were your biggest musical inspirations growing up?
Ciara: I have two: I call it 'MJ Squared.' So basically Michael Jackson and Michael Jordan.
Do you work with a charity?
Ciara: You know, right now I don't have a particular one, but whenever I do get to give back, I always have a focus on the kids.
