American Idol season 5 winner, Taylor Hicks, performs a FREE concert for audiences at Bally's Atlantic City Thursday July 25 - Saturday July 27th.
NJ.COM: How awesome is it to be performing in Atlantic City?
HICKS: I've always heard that the one thing someone should do before they die is visit the boardwalk in the summer. And I am super excited about performing in Atlantic City during the peak season.
Most performers are there for one or two nights and can't enjoy much, but you'll be there for awhile, so you'll get to walk around and see some sights, have people given you advice on what to do?
HICKS: I'm just pulling into town from NYC, I've gotten a couple of good restaurant recommendations. That's the great thing with my deal with Caesars Entertainment, I travel outside of my Las Vegas residency so I get to visit sister properties, like Bally's in Atlantic City, and really be able to experience what that particular city has to offer.
What has life been like since American Idol?
HICKS: I consider it like staying on a rocket ship. It obviously changed my life. I've always wanted to be an entertainer and being on the platform of American Idol at that particular time, I was very blessed to have my career launched in the way that it was.
Would you ever consider being a judge on American Idol or any of the other popular singing competition shows?
HICKS: I would. Obviously, going through the season that I went through, being the biggest American Idol they ever had or that any reality or talent show has ever had, I would love to do that. I would love to give my 2 cents.
Who do you keep in touch with most and do you hang with any of the contestants?
HICKS: Yes I do keep in touch with a lot of folks that I see. I talk to the winners a lot more than some of the other folks, just because I see the winners more often during the course of the year...Everybody is kind of family and it's always great to see everybody.
You gotta love your Soul Patrol fans, how did that originate and what do you love most about them?
HICKS: Well I'm just very excited to be able to have the legion of fans that I do. They are just very loyal, and to have that fan base is very special.
If you weren't singing what would you do?
HICKS: Probably be at the beach.
One of your most recognizable assets besides your voice is your beautiful gray hair, you are so young, how come you chose to keep it?
HICKS: You have to embrace some things about yourself, and obviously that's one of them. I've been embracing gray hair since...high school and I don't think that anything's changed since then.
Inquiring minds want to know, are you in a relationship?
HICKS: I'm very happy.
Is there anything else you want fans to know?
HICKS: I'm really excited about being in the studio right now, working a country album in Nashville...it has a soulful country vibe...I'm looking forward to releasing it soon.
