Syfy's original movie Sharknado may sound corny and have an unrealistic plot, but it sure is garnering a cult following, with future plans of a sequel.
NJ.com chatted with Cassie Scerbo prior to her hosting The Pool After Dark at Harrah's, about the film and it's success, check it out :
NJ.com: Tell us about coming to Atlantic City, how does it feel to be the host of The Pool After Dark?
SCERBO: Honestly It’s so exciting. It's very in the Sharknado theme, which I love, and I’m originally from New York. I was born in New York and raised in South Florida, so I’m an East Coast girl. I’m just happy to be back here; I love it.
Talk to us about Sharknado, this is a whole phenomenon now, did you ever think it was going to be this big?
SCERBO: Honestly, not at all. Not in my wildest dreams did I ever imagine this was going to be the film to blow up. I had no idea. Like I tell everybody that’s what’s exciting about Hollywood, you never know what’s going to be the thing that blows up. That’s what keeps everyone on their toes. It’s exciting. The movie is a cult hit, it’s very campy, people get it, they are in the theaters laughing with us and cheering the characters on, and it's just become this huge phenomenon. Honestly, I am just so excited to be a part of it; it’s just been fun. We’re not taking it seriously, we are just having a blast.
Who was your favorite character to work with?
SCERBO: You know everybody was so sweet. Ian was great, Tara was amazing, Aubrey and Jason and Claudia and Chuck were all really great. It was just a perfect cast.
What’s in your future right now?
SCERBO: I have another film coming out, I don’t know the exact air date but I’m very excited about it. It’s another Syfy-type film, and I’m kind of taking this and running with it at the moment because I am such a tomboy at heart, so it’s like my inner tomboy's dream. Then I’m also working on music. I just finished my first single.
Really, what’s it called?
SCERBO: I’m not allowed to say yet, because it’s going to be revealed, and people will understand why it has to be a "reveal" because it has to do with the title, so I’m really excited about it. It's very fun, it’s very upbeat, it’s poppy with a little bit of an edge. I think people will really like it.
What’s something that people don’t really know about you?
SCERBO: I feel like I’ve used this so much and people probably know this by now, but I play a lot of girly roles and that’s why I love Sharknado because I got to play this bad ass tomboy character, but I box which people don’t ever think, I’m big into boxing and that is something that always happens to surprise people.
