From old school to new school, Vanilla Ice heated things up at The Pool After Dark with all kinds of great jams including his popular Ice Ice Baby. Prior to his performance NJ.com caught up with the Ice man and chatted about his new Amish show as well as his recent controversy from Miley Cyrus. Check it out:
NJ.COM: How does it feel to host The Pool After Dark?
ICE: Amazing, I love it, I've played here before, it's always a great time and I hope to continue that tonight.
Now, Rob Van Winkle, how did you get the name Vanilla Ice?
ICE: I used to break dance and spin on my head. I had this move called 'The Ice' and it looked like I was sliding on ice. Then they put the vanilla on later, so it was just a nickname that caught on. I used to hate it actually, but now I love it.
What’s your favorite flavor of water ice?
ICE: Of water ice? Well it's gotta be Vanilla, is there any other flavor, c'mon!
Talk to us about everything going on in the news with Miley Cyrus's comment about you and Justin Bieber?
ICE: I've already given my thoughts, they are all online if you want to check that out. I mean it's just about great advice, I wish them the best. It's unfortunate that people really tune in and watch their self destruction, but it's entertaining for us and probably horrible for them. But they'll be alright, they just gotta find a purpose in life. How about that one?! Thousands of dollars of therapy for free. Holla!
Talk to us about your show The Vanilla Ice Project?
ICE: Check out on the 12th of October, Vanilla Ice Goes Amish. Yes you heard it right. [10/9c on DIY Network]
Now the Amish people don't typically like to be on TV, how are you working with them?
ICE: That's right. It took them some convincing, and they don't have internet to contact them or a cell phone, or anything. You have to drive out there, roll your sleeves up, and when the sun goes down it get's dark, let me tell ya. It's buggy traffic out there, they're great people though!
Is there anything else coming out in your future that you want to tell us about?
ICE: I have plenty of songs and plenty of things coming out, but the main thing is I focus on October 12th.
What advice can you give to an aspiring artist just like you were?
ICE: Well you know, in a quick summary, I had a weekend that lasted a few years. And if you survive that, you can survive anything.
What's something people don't know about you that they would be shocked to know?
ICE: [Laughs] Oh I don’t know, there’s a lot. I’m a Ninja so I can’t reveal all of my secrets.
